Obituary

Clyde S. Hargett, Sr., 93, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013. He was born in Union County, NC on October 3, 1920 son of the late Edward and Bessie Hargett. Mr. Hargett was a US Army veteran, serving in WW II and was a highly decorated Army Sgt. serving under General Patton. He was awarded the combat infantry badge, bronze star, purple heart, among other citations. He was a life member of VFW Post 5464 and the Disabled American Veterans. Clyde was a lifetime member of Benton Heights Presbyterian Church and had a personal relationship with the Lord. He was a devoted husband and father and will be remembered as a very humble and loved man. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 2:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. Mr. Hargett was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Secrest Hargett, also preceded by three brothers and seven sisters. He is survived by his sons, Clyde S. Hargett, Jr. and Edward E. Hargett, both of Monroe, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
