Peggy Alene Wells Page (80) peacefully departed this world on January 1, 2023, at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA in Salisbury, NC. She was born November 4, 1942, in Rutherford, NC to Luther Memory Wells and Mertha Morrison Wells.


Peggy dutifully served her country for 30 years, rising to the rank of full Colonel in the Army. During her time in the military, she was a nurse who served in Vietnam and eventually became the first female Deputy Commander of a military hospital. After retirement, Peggy spent many years volunteering in Ghana at rural hospitals, providing much-needed medical care and sharing God’s love. Throughout her life, Peggy loved traveling the world and visited various corners of the globe including many countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa.


She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 41 years, John Buford Page, her parents, her sister Betty Jean Wells Gibbs, and her sister-in-law Shelia Boone Wells. Left to mourn her loss are her son, John Luther Page & wife Amanda; son JR Page & wife Kristen; and her beloved granddaughters McKenna Grace Page and Finley Love Page. Peggy is also survived by her siblings, Robert Wells & wife Kathy; Nan Proffitt & husband Ronni, and Earl Wells.


A graveside service will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 at noon at Waxhaw Baptist Church Cemetery, 8213 Old Waxhaw-Monroe Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the home of John and Amanda Page. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC; the family will not be present during this time.


The family requests that donations be made in Peggy’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220 or a charity of your choice.
