Colleen Helms Cox

Colleen Helms Cox, 88, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023, after a brief illness that did not respond to thorough hospital medical care. She was born in Union County, November 20, 1934, daughter of the late Clay Helms and Ruth Baucom Helms. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Vance Clinton Cox, brothers; Elder Newell Helms and his wife Pat, brother Barry Helms and sister-in-law Dean Helms.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, 3619 Morgan Mill Rd., Monroe, NC 28110 with burial following in the church cemetery.

Colleen is survived by her son Alan Clinton Cox, daughter Ginger Cox Mullis (Danny), brother Bob Helms, three grandchildren; Tori Cox Craig (DJ), Morgan Funderburk (Caroline), Shelby Funderburk Blalock (Tyler), three step-grandchildren; Justin Mullis (Chantal), Todd Mullis (Lauren), Jennifer Wyatt (Shane), and two great- grandchildren; Teegan Hunter Craig and Dallas Alan Craig, sister-in-law Carolyn Helms. The family would like to recognize Colleen’s special companion Mr. Elton Braswell and her son through love, Mark Broome.

The family will receive friends and family from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Friday, June 16, 2023, at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.

Colleen lived a life of service to others. The family wants to thank beloved nieces and nephews as well as beloved sisters-in-law for their visitation and encouragement. Special thanks to Dr. Roshni Patel and her nurse, Michelle, for compassionate medical care through the years.
