Colon (Benton) Baucom

Colon Benton Baucom, 82, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016. She was born May 9, 1934 in Union County, NC daughter to the late Sanford Morris Iva Lee Helms Benton. She was also preceded in death by her husband Jackie H. “Jack” Baucom; son Marty Carroll Baucom; two brothers, Jesse Benton and Virgil Benton; and a sister Jennie Braswell. Colon was a lifelong resident of Union County, having graduated from Unionville High School,Class of 1953. She worked as a paralegal and also in the Union County School system. She was a dedicated caretaker for her husband Jack, and made it her ministry to visit the sick and shut-ins. She will be missed by all that she came in contact with. She was a member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday November 18, 2016 in Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 7608 Concord Hwy. Monroe, NC 28110. Burial will follow in Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Baucom is survived by two sons, Darrell H. Baucom and wife Cynthia; Randy K. Baucom and wife Vanessa all of Monroe; two brothers, Bruce Benton and Vance Benton; two sisters, Nina Campbell and Polly Love; six grandchildren, Michelle B. Goodman and husband Donald, Brian Baucom and wife Christie, Eric Baucom, Leslie B. Rodriguez and husband Laurent, Kaitlyn Baucom and Kristen Baucom; six great-grandchildren, Daniel Goodman, Elizabeth Goodman, Gabrielle Goodman, Hudson Baucom, Mikayla Baucom, and Ethen Baucom. The family will receive friends 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112.
