Cora Lee Carnes

Mrs. Cora Lee Belk Carnes, 96, of Monroe, NC passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Union County on December 26, 1923 to the late Crawford and Loma Foard Belk. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband J.B. Carnes, son, Charles Ray Carnes, and daughter, Carol Carnes Collins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March10, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Wolf Pond Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Mark Evans. Interment will following in Wolf Pond Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Cora Lee was a devoted Christian and a longtime member of Wolf Pond Baptist Church. She loved her community and the lifelong relationships she made there. She was a great cook and when her health allowed would prepare amazing meals for her family and friends. She was also known to fix a chicken and dumpling or two for some favorite Union EMS and Monroe Fire crews and she considered them all her family as well. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Mills (Bobby), four grandchildren, Lisa C. Stritt (Brian), Stephanie C. Conner (Don), Kelly Collins (Shawna) and Garrett Mills (Rachel); five great grandchildren (Christopher Parker (Christy), Drew Hollingsworth (Beth), Casey Carter (Austin), Abbey Hollingsworth (Drew Stone) and Chase Conner; and five great great-grandchildren, Caiden Parker, Cashton & Journi Carter, Will & Mary Collins Hollingsworth; beloved nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
