Cullie Joe Baucom

Cullie Joe Baucom, 80, was born in Union County on August 14, 1938, son of the late Brite and Ellie Helms Baucom. He passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital. He is a graduate of Unionville High School, Monroe, North Carolina, and an alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he majored in Business. He later graduated from The Carolina School of Banking. His banking career began in 1960 when he joined Security Bank and Trust Company upon its opening in Monroe and helped to establish its financial base. Before Mr. Baucom’s career retirement in 2004, he enjoyed 20 years in the auto industry having sold Cadillacs. His love and dedication to the industry and to his customers gained him notoriety with Cadillac Motor Division having once earned title of second highest sales in the country. In the Carolinas, he was known as the “Cadillac Man.” He grew up on a farm where he and his sister were given much responsibility for helping to manage the cattle and land. He learned a love of and dedication to the earth and to hard work and perseverance. For their entire lives, he and his sister have helped take care of their mentally handicapped brother whose health and well-being have remained their responsibility after the deaths of their parents. Cullie Joe Baucom loved the Lord, his family, his friends and neighbors and his farm. His 80th birthday this year was hugely celebrated with joy, appreciation and thankfulness to God for this special man who was blessed to have spent nearly 58 years with his devoted wife Nancy whom he so loved. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, November 1, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, 302 East Windsor Street, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends following the service in the family life center. Inurnment will be private at a later date. He is survived by his wife Nancy Griffin Baucom, two children, Marilyn Baucom (Doug Lively) of Charlotte and Mark Baucom (Jennifer) of Hickory and three precious grandchildren, Kennedy Elizabeth Baucom, Anna Katherine Baucom and Grayson Mark Baucom for whom he often said he was thankful to have lived to love and enjoy. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Morrison and her two daughters, brother Jerry Brite Baucom and a special sister-in-law Ann Griffin Rowell of Fayetteville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, 302 East Windsor Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
