Danny “Dan” Warren Johnson, 77, of Monroe, NC, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. He was born on January 1, 1948, in Union County, NC, to the late Cleo Haven Johnson and Joyce Nicholson Johnson.
A lifelong resident of Charlotte and later Union County, Dan was known for his warmth and tireless work ethic. After college, he began his professional journey in the early 1970s as a director with the Charlotte News and Observer. He developed an interest in real estate after investing in and restoring homes in the Charlotte area. Together with his beloved wife, Jean, Dan co-founded Alpha Realty Company in Union County, where they built a home and a family business.
He served as President of the Union County Association of Realtors in 1983 and remained a longtime member of its Board of Directors. A licensed North Carolina Residential Appraiser, Dan later focused on real estate development beginning in 1998. Beyond real estate, Dan had a lifelong love for golf. In pursuit of that passion, he co-developed Eagle Chase Golf Club in Marshville, NC.
Dan’s faith was an important part of his life. For many years, he was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Monroe, where he served faithfully as a deacon and president of his adult Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Whitaker Johnson; daughter, Catherine Elizabeth “Beth” Luebbert; brother, Phillip Johnson (Margaret); and his treasured granddaughters, Macie Luebbert and Mary Ellis Luebbert. He leaves behind his beloved sister-in-law, Sandra Shaw, and cherished nieces, Michelle Bollinger and Jennifer Griffin, and nephew, Wes Shaw (Terry). The family would like to extend a special thank you to his close friends and caregivers, Darrell Woodwiss, Lisa Staton, and Erica Helms, for their compassion and support.
A private graveside service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Prospect Southern Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.
