David Alson Helms

David Alson Helms, 89, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016. He was born in Union County, NC on February 15, 1927 son of the late Bascom Alson and Mary Elizabeth Laney Helms. Mr. Helms was a US Navy Veteran and was retired manager of the printing department of Monroe Hardware Co. Mr. Helms is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Murray Helms, daughter, Marsha Hancock, sons, Michael Helms and wife Nancy, Karl Helms and wife Donna and Keith Helms and wife Lisa, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dalton Laney Helms. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Mineral Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
