Mr. David Lee Polk, 81, died February 17, 2006. A native of Union County he was born December 23, 1924, son of the late Frank and Fronnie Rushing Polk. He was a retired diesel mechanic and farmer, and a World War II, US Army veteran. He had a love for racing and automobiles. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 20, 2006, in the Shiloh Advent Christian Church, of which he was a member, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. David is survived by his wife of 57 years Pauline Rushing Polk; daughter Cathy Cherry and husband Harold of Matthews; sons John Polk and wife Pam of Stokesdale, NC, Steve Polk and wife Pattie, Randy Polk and wife Vickie and Junior Estelle and wife Wanda all of Monroe; brother Fred Polk and sister Irene Tarlton both of Monroe; 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Mr. Polk was predeceased by 8 brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Cremation Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
