David Murray Rushing

David Murray Rushing, 72, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Monday, August 14, 2017 with his family and friends by his side. He was born in Union County on July 1, 1945, son to the late Thomas and Christine Walters Rushing. Mr. Rushing is survived by his loving wife, Marsha Horne Rushing, son, Dave Rushing; wife Amanda of Matthews; daughter, Tracy Wright of Mooresville, and three adored grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Benjamin T. “Benny” Rushing. David spent the majority of his life in Marshville. He graduated from Forest Hills in 1963 and graduated from Wake Forest University 1966 and University of Georgia 1969 with a degree in Pharmacy. David was a successful Pharmacist, entrepreneur, and farmer. David was an avid golfer and life long fan of Wake Forest sports. David had many friends and enjoyed spending time with his fraternity brothers from Wake Forest. They spent many vacations together and had a bond that was one of David’s most prized possessions. David was very active in his community, serving on numerous boards of local civic organizations including Rotary Club, Lions Club, Masons, and Kiwanis. David was a long time member and board member of Rolling Hills Country Club. He also served as a Deacon for Marshville Baptist Church. David served as a town councilman and served as Mayor of Marshville for two consecutive terms. David’s easy smile and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by countless loving friends and family members. A memorial service officiated by his former pastor, Derrill Smith, assisted by Dennis Burton, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Wingate Baptist Church with visitation following the service. A graveside service will be held for immediate family at a later date. The family has requested memorials to be made at Wingate Baptist Church, 109 W.
