Dean Parks Hinson

Dean Dean-o Parks Hinson, 59, passed away Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 peacefully at his home in Indian Trail, with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 11, 1957 in Monroe, North Carolina, to Sandra McManus Hinson and the late Howard Pete Hinson. Dean was a loving husband, father, grandfather, mechanic, and collector of classic Mercedes. Funeral services for Dean will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at New Salem Baptist Church in Monroe NC, with the Rev. Douglas Rumley and Rev. Eddie Barbee officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, June 5, 2017 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Gordon Funeral Service 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112. As a small child, they knew that Dean’s lifetime passion would be cars. Dean enjoyed drag racing with his father Pete and brother Alan early in life. They raced for decades across the southeastern parts of the United States. He found love in the form of wife Sandy. They were married in Monroe, NC on September 24, 1977. Dean would tell you his greatest accomplishment was” his bride” Sandy Hinson. Just shy of 3 months, he and “his bride” would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in September. Two things Dean never lacked were grace and a good joke. He will be remembered for his wit, his generosity, and his love for “his beautiful bride” and family. Survivors are his wife Sandy Long Hinson, sons Seth Parks Hinson and Cameron Tyler Hinson both of Indian Trail, a daughter Katie Hinson Miers and her husband Drew of Charlotte, NC; his mother Sandra McManus Hinson of Monroe, North Carolina and two grandchildren, Aydan Miers and Jemma Miers; his brother Michael Alan Hinson and wife Paula of Fuquay Varina, NC and three nephews Brian(Abby), Taylor (Tabitha) and Travis Hinson(Tabitha); his mother-in-law Betty McManus Long of Monroe, NC. His kids remember their annual summer vacations at Oak Island. A mechanic from the age of 18, Dean worked on cars for pleasure and for the North Carolina Highway Patrol , Troop H for 25 years. He was good with his hands and was known to fix family and friends' cars at no cost. Dean served as a Staff Sergeant in the 812th Transportation Battalion of the United States Army Reserves from March 1976 until his retirement in August 1999.
