Deborah Kay Newton, 67 of Monroe, passed away February 13, 2025. Born in Rutherfordton, NC on December 16, 1957, she was the daughter of Grace Horton Newton and of the late Velestes “Vo” Newton.
She is also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Broome, brother Russell Newton and a sister-in-law, Doris Simpson.
She attended Sunshine Elementary School and later attended Alexander High School. Deborah enjoyed being a housewife and loved to cook and read. She also enjoyed shopping and being visited by her neighbors. She loved her cats dearly, especially Sylvester.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
In addition to her mother, Grace, she is survived by her sister Faye Holloway Birchfield, brothers Carl, Garry, and Alan. She is also survived by her Aunt Martha Jane Horton Buchanan and sister-in-law Margaret Helms (Don).
The family would like to thank Monroe Rehabilitation for the special care for the 5 years she was there, and to Dr. Badalynne and his staff at Atrium Health Union.
