Dennis Andrew Rorie, age 71, of York SC, proud father of three children, eight grandchildren, and numerous dogs, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte NC as a result of a traumatic brain injury sustained in a car accident.
Dennis Rorie was born on April 5, 1953, in Charlotte, NC to Andrew Jackson (Jack) Rorie and Marceleen Lefler Rorie. Marceleen said Dennis was named after Dennis the Menace cartoon character, and those who knew Dennis as a child can attest that the name may have in fact been appropriate. As a youth, Dennis joined the Boy Scouts of America, developing a deep sense of duty to God and country, eventually earning his Eagle Scout Award.
Upon graduating from Garinger High School in Charlotte NC in 1971, he began his career as an electrical contractor, service manager, CPCC instructor, and safety inspector. He worked hard to help provide for his family. He often worked two or three jobs at a time, including working security and parking for the original Charlotte Hornets for 14 years.
Dennis was an avid deer hunter, who loved playing, coaching, and watching sports. He enjoyed softball and baseball and taking his family on trips to visit historical sites in the United States. Many of those trips included the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and many major league baseball parks. He enjoyed watching The Andy Griffith Show and attending Neil Diamond concerts.
In short, he was full of life.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Marceleen Rorie as well as his sister Amanda Rorie.
Mr. Rorie is survived by two sons, Brian Rorie of Harrisburg NC, and Chad Rorie of Monroe NC; one daughter, Lael Allen and her husband Joel Allen of Buford SC; Barbara Rorie Wright of Mint Hill NC, loving mother of Dennis’ three children; five grandsons, Nick Rorie, Cooper Rorie, Dakota Rorie, Rorie Allen, and Wyle Allen; three granddaughters, Hailey Rorie, Emma Rorie, and Tindall Allen; and sister Connie Yarbrough and her husband Milton (Buddy) Yarbrough of Monroe NC.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Gordon Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends before the funeral from 11:00 am until 11:45 am at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.
