Diane Lynn Helms

On August 21, 2020 Mrs. Diane Sprinkle Helms, 68, left the loving embrace of her family and entered eternal life in the arms of her Heavenly Father. Diane was born in Radford, VA on December 14, 1951 to loving parents, Clarence D. Sprinkle and Sylvia St. Clair Sprinkle, both preceded her in death. Her surviving devoted sister and dear friend, Karen Sprinkle, grew up alongside Diane sharing a full life of laughter and wonderful memories. A member of the 1970 graduating class of East Forsyth High School in Kenersville NC, Diane earned a degree in Business from Wingate College. While a college student, she met her spirited future husband Donald Heath Helms. He had a magnetic personality and a contagious loud laugh. In May of 1973, Diane married Don and the two began a thirty-five year wonderful journey together. Don preceded Diane in death in 2008 after a rich life creating a family rooted in love. Diane was so proud of her four daughters who recall their precious mother as selfless and a dear close friend. Diane, known as Momma to Mandy, Melissa, Donese and Katie was a tender and tough woman. She taught her daughters three significant foundational truths. “Be kind and compassionate, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Eph. 4:32 Be strong, no matter the situation! Always work hard! Diane led by example living out these principles throughout her life. Over the last four years she fought a stoic and courageous WAR with cancer. Diane leaves behind her daughters and their families including seven treasured grandchildren. Diane, cherished as Grammy, is known for loving the babies, praying for the babies and making sure they were well fed. She always wanted each one to know how much they were loved! Surviving and Honoring Diane’s life together are… Daughter- Mandy Helms Boyd, husband Shane and their children Ella and Christian Daughter- Melissa Helms Kakouras, husband Tommy and their children Alexander and Luke Daughter – Donese Michelle Helms Daughter – Katie Helms Eldin, husband Ahmed and their children Ansley, Asher and Anderson Sister – Karen Sprinkle Sister In-Law- Nancy Bartles, husband Carl Brother In-Law- David Helms, wife Joy Sister In-Law- the late Linda Smith, husband Tim Smith Brother In-Law- Doug Helms, wife Cindy Many loving nieces and nephews Our hero is healed! “I thank my God every time I think of you.” Philippians 1: 3 Diane’s family and friends will celebrate Diane’s life on Wednesday August 26th at 3pm at Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery with a graveside service.
