Donald Reece Simpson

Donald Reece Don Simpson, 80, of Indian Trail, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at Clare Bridge in Monroe. He was born March 23, 1935, in Union County to the late Louie Ervin Simpson and Velma Broome Simpson. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Simpson was a member of First Baptist Church Indian Trail, and was a Mason. He retired from the Maintenance Department at Charlotte Plastics in 1999 and from Allen Tate Realtors Wing Team in 2009. A licensed private pilot, Mr. Simpson was instrumental in the founding of Goose Creek Airport. He enjoyed flying, fishing, and spending time with his family, most especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Simpson is survived by his wife, Marlene Carter Simpson; son, Ronnie Simpson of Charlotte; daughter, Donna Broadaway and husband, Dennis of Monroe; siblings, Elsie Helms, Aldred Bud Simpson and wife, Rachel, Shelby Rash and husband, Phil, Pat Monda and husband, Nick, Anne Austin and husband, Ken, Heath Simpson and wife, Lib, Keith Simpson and wife, Judy, Libby Taylor and husband, Carroll, Sara Furr and husband, David, Lowell Simpson and wife, Jackie, and Mick Simpson, and wife Nancy; grandchildren, Chad Strawn and wife, Kristin, Scott Strawn, Jeff Broadaway, and Lindsey Kipke and husband, Mike; and great-grandchildren, Reagan, Evan, Emmarie, Gavin, and Landyn Strawn, and Bellamy Kipke. The family will visit with relatives and friends Sunday, November 29, 2015, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112 and at other times at the home of Dennis and Donna Broadaway. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 30, at 2:00 PM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209 or to Clare Bridge Monroe Square, 919 Fitzgerald Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
