Donald (Donny) Farrell Stegall, 67, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away into the arms of Jesus on August 11, 2026. He was born on November 20, 1958, son to Jimmy Farrell Stegall and the late Julia Funderburk Stegall. He is preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Naylor Stegall.
Donny was a graduate of Monroe High School, Class of 1977, then pursued studies in computer programming at North Carolina State University and excelled in software development. A gifted and innovative developer, he went on to become Chief Software architect of the IRIS/GuestCheck Point-of-Sale system that was used by Starbucks in the late 1990’s. He later had a long career in the programming area of the banking industry before he had to leave it due to declining health. Donny was a creative and determined individual with a big heart and a wide variety of interests. He had a lifelong love of music and especially enjoyed collecting guitars. He was extremely passionate about Radio-controlled model aircraft and was an avid collector who found great enjoyment in the many treasures he gathered throughout his life. He also appreciated good food and the simple pleasures of spending time, whether virtually or in person with the people who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Matthew James Stegall and his wife Kristen, grandson, Jack Stegall, father, Jimmy Farrell Stegall and wife, Nancy; his sister, Sherri Stegall Miller and husband, Ronnie; his brother, Charles Wilson Stegall and wife, Patsy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Ruth and Nick Stegall, as well as Donny’s longtime friend from high school, Billy Carroll, for their friendship, kindness, and support.
Donny will be remembered for his perseverance, his fondness for his hobbies and collections, and the unique way he approached life. His memory will live on in the family and friends who loved him.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
