Donald Roger Williams

March 1, 1953 — May 28, 2023

Donald “Roger” Williams, 70, of Monroe NC, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, May 28, 2023. He was born on March 1, 1953, in Monroe NC to the late Ellis and Ellie Williams. Roger is preceded in death by his sister Linda Booth, brothers-in-law, Bobby Booth and Arnold Mills, father-in-law Billy Cox, best friend Walt Adcock, and his grandson Eli Nance. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Marilyn, daughter Kelly Nance (Bubba), son Chad Williams (Jennifer), grandchildren Levi Nance, Carleigh Williams, Lily Nance, and Jaxson Williams, sister Doris Mills of Kannapolis, brother Harold Williams (Ann) of Wingate, sister Judy Love of Monroe, best friend Jack Simpson (Linda) of Todd NC, mother in law Helen Cox, brothers and sisters in law Ken and Debbie Bess, Roger and Kristi Cox, Tim and Judy Rape, Doug and Crystal Cox all of Monroe and many nieces and nephews.

Roger grew up on his family farm on Tom Williams Road watching his dad work the land and learning from him. He knew that farming was what he was called to do. Roger has been farming for 50 years with his brother Harold and in more recent years with his son, Chad. Along with his love of farming was his love for projects with old tractors. He enjoyed restoring old tractors even up to his last days. He was a man who could fix anything with nothing.

Even more than the tractors, Roger adored his four grandchildren and in their words “Grandad makes everything better”. Whether it was an extra snack, a ride in the tractor or working at the corn crib, Grandad was there to make them smile. He said “Time spent with kids is time well spent. “

Roger grew up at Macedonia Baptist Church where he surrendered his life to Christ. He later joined and served at Lee Park Baptist. He was a quiet man of faith, but believed in the Lord’s grace and mercy, even up to the end. No matter what the day held for him he could see the Lord’s blessings on his life and say “ain’t it a good day”. He will be greatly missed but his life and legacy will live on through his family.
