Graveside Service
Memorial Service
The Shiloh Baptist Church of Monroe, North Carolina
Starts at 10:00 am (Eastern time)
Dora Lorraine Parker Belk died March 23, 2026, after 87 years of bringing kindness, courage, and generosity to this world. She was many things during her long and meaningful life, including wife, homemaker, parent, teacher, banker, sister, grandmother, and friend. She demonstrated incredible tenacity and belief in the resurrection faith, strongly rooted in her lifelong Baptist tradition. She willingly supported those whom she loved with her time and talents, a selfless perspective and dedication.
She was quick to compliment people and had a way of smiling and expressing a personal interest that made one feel seen, heard, and affirmed. She never stopped seeing the good in this world and found happiness no matter the circumstances (although she never quite got over the sting of giving up her driving privileges).
Her legacy continues through the family she created, a close-knit community of kinship whose love and commitment to each other is a testament to her example. She lived her life in an authentic joyful way, existing as a role model for a kinder and more inclusive humanity. Generosity came naturally to her. She delighted in sharing her spirit and gifts with those she met. She found motherhood to be God’s greatest purpose for her life.
In passing from death to eternal life, Lorraine follows her parents, Catherine Wrape & Vernon Paul Parker; her beloved husband, James “Jimmy” Loyd Belk, Jr.; infant daughter, Lori Ann. She leaves behind her daughter, Robin Paulette Belk; her son, Timothy James Belk; cherished grandchildren; beloved nieces and nephews; a host of extended family. Her absence leaves both a deep sadness and a profound gratitude for a life well lived.
A Service of Committal will be held Friday, March 27 at Lakeland Memorial Park (1901 Lancaster Avenue) at ten o’clock in the morning.
A Memorial Service in Witness to the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, May 16 at The Shiloh Baptist Church of Monroe, North Carolina (2301 Rocky River Rd. N) at ten o’clock in the morning with The Reverend Ron Hanna officiating. A thirty-minute musical prelude will precede the service of worship. The family will greet friends at a brunch immediately following in the Family Ministry Center.
The family expresses their gratitude to in-home care providers Mignon Baucom and Susanne Keziah; to healthcare professionals of Novant Health and Hospice Care of Union County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Children’s Home Society of North Carolina (P. O. Box 14608, Greensboro 27415); Hospice of Union County (700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe NC 28110); Shiloh Baptist Church General Fund (2301 Rocky River Rd. N, Monroe NC 28110).
