Doris Setzer East, 93, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Levine and Dickson Hospice House at Southminster in Charlotte. She was born February 26, 1922, in Winston-Salem, to the late Roy Frederick and Trula Lingle Setzer. Mrs. East graduated from High Point College and was employed by McLean Trucking Company, where she was a commercial artist and known for her characters Check and Double Check. A member of First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, she was a long time member of the Young Adult Sunday School Class where many of her cherished friendships were nurtured. Mrs. East was preceded in death by her husband, Whitfield Brown East, Jr. She is survived by her son, Whitfield Brown East, III and wife, Connie Pope East of Monroe, NY; daughter, Susan East Hutaff and husband, Richard Hutaff of Weddington, NC; six grandchildren, Brian, Katie, Neal, Madison, Maggie, and Grace; and six great-grandchildren, Adeline, Emery, Scarlett, Lily, Sadie, and Eva. A celebration of Mrs. East's life will be held near the date of her 94th birthday in February 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the William G.
