Doris L. Flowers, of Plantation Estates, 90, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013. She was born January 28, 1923 in Wayne County, NC daughter of the late Paul Wilbur and Lillie Belle Edmundson Flowers. She was an avid sportswoman; Doris enjoyed many types of sporting events both as a participant and spectator, particularly, fishing along the coasts of the Carolinas. After graduation form Goldsboro High School, in 1938, Doris entered the nursing school at James Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, NC. Following several years of nursing, she studied at the Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana, to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She moved to Charlotte, NC, and worked at Presbyterian Hospital Main, until her retirement. She was a valued and well respected CRNA there of 32 years. Doris was a life-ling member of the Goldsboro Friends Meeting and a strong supporter of the American Friends Service Committee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul W. Flowers, Jr. and a nephew, Paul W. Flowers, III (Tripp) of Goldsboro. She is survived by her sister, Helen F. Winchester, of Monroe, NC and a sister-in-law, Betty G. Flowers, of Goldsboro, NC. Also surviving are nieces, Lou Ann Flowers of Goldsboro, Carol Williams (Ben) of Monroe, NC and nephews David Flowers (Donna) of Goldsboro, Barry Flowers (Cindy), of Georgia, and Jim Winchester (Rita) and Paul Winchester (Janice) of Monroe, NC. Additional survivors include several great nieces and nephews as well as great, great nieces and nephews. Among those who also loved her, were her loyal and faithful caregivers, Diep Vo, Debra Roberts, Sharon Moser and An Pham. A memorial service will be held at Plantation Estates on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 2:00 PM with inurnment following later in the week at Wayne Memorial Park, Goldsboro, NC.
