Doris Jean Funderburk

Mrs. Doris Jean Smith Funderburk, 89, of Monroe, NC, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021. She was born in Union County on October 12, 1931, daughter to the late Curtis Smith and Zula Martin Smith. She is also preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, George C. Funderburk Jr. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Alon Smith; and a son-in-law, Charles Gulledge. A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, in Lakeland Memorial Park. Mrs. Funderburk will lie in state prior to the service from 9:00AM until 10:45AM at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. She traveled extensively, including all 50 States and Europe. She loved cooking for family and friends, was an expert seamstress, and had a strong love of country and gospel music. Mrs. Funderburk was a lifetime member and Sunday School Teacher at Macedonia Baptist Church. She was also one of the founding members of Stack Road VFD Auxiliary. She enjoyed serving as an Election Official and served as Vice President of Funderburk Farms for many years. Doris is survived by her daughters, Beverly Gulledge and Karen Greene (Rick); two grandsons, Bryan McManus (Michelle) and Nicholas Gulledge (Angela); three great grandchildren, Nichole Gulledge, Cate McManus, and Jake McManus; brother, Donald Smith, sister, Juanita Croutch; and a special friend of the family Bob Ashby.
