Dorothy 'Dot' (Hord) Corley

Dorothy “Dot” Hord Corley, 79, of Monroe, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 2:30pm until 3:45pm in Central Hall at Central United Methodist Church, 801 S. Hayne St in Monroe. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 4:00pm in the Sanctuary. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. Dot was born on July 11, 1935 in Sharon, SC , daughter to the late Margaret Lois White Hord and Raymond Franklin Hord. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Hord in 1987 and by her loving husband of 54 years, William “Bill” Corley in 2012. She was a graduate of Sharon High School in 1953 and of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC in 1957. Dot worked for the Union County Public Library for 22 years where she enjoyed helping others on the bookmobile and as a research librarian. She retired in 1997. Dot was a loyal member of Central United Methodist Church for 41 years and a volunteer with numerous civic organizations. Dot’s family was her life and her pride and joy. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and a much loved “MaMa” to her many grandchildren. Her sweet smile, her laugh, her kind heart and selfless nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her. What she cared most about in life was loving her Lord, loving her family, and helping others. A more loyal mother and friend could never be found. Those left to cherish her memory are twin sons Donnie Corley of Wingate and Ronnie Corley and wife Tammy of Wingate; daughter Debbie Corley Puigcerver and husband Luis of Cary, NC; nine grandchildren Jennifer, Brooke, Abby, and Carson Corley, William and Amy Puigcerver and Sarah Puigcerver Koren, Adam and Brittany Buskirk.
