Obituary

Dorothy Shannon Fowler passed away peacefully August 25, 2016. Mrs. Fowler was born in Union County, NC, on October 16, 1925, the daughter of the late Annie Lucille Gordon and William Sidney Shannon. Mrs. Fowler graduated from Wingate High School and Wingate Jr. College. After completing school, she was employed in the banking and insurance industry. Dot loved the Lord and was a member of Benton Heights Baptist Church as a charter member and many years later joined Oakland Baptist Church. She loved to sing and play piano, and was very involved with her church choir. A life like Dot's leaves a lasting fingerprint upon those she has touched and her legacy won't be forgotten. She was the best wife and mother anyone could have had and she loved her family unconditionally. She was an excellent cook, was always immaculate in her appearance, and thought her grandchildren and great grandchildren could do no wrong. In addition to her husband of 70 years, Henry D. Speck Fowler, she leaves a daughter, Sally Brantley and her husband, Chris; grandson, Travis Brantley and wife, Modesty; granddaughter, Jessica Brantley and fiancé', Dustin Putnam; great grandchildren, Jacob and Ella Brantley; and caregiver, Shannon Sullivan. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother that she thought of as her children, Martha Broome and husband, Buddy, Mary Crisp and husband, Bob, and Gordon Shannon and wife, Bobbie; one sister-in-law, Mary Baker Shannon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mildred Shannon Lowery; and brother, William Bruce Shannon. The family will visit with relatives and friends from 10:00 to 10:45 AM on Monday, August 29, 2016, at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. The funeral service will follow in the Gordon Funeral Chapel at 11:00 AM on Monday. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.
