February 11, 1930 — December 23, 2023

Dorothy (Dot) Moser Plyler, 93, peacefully went to heaven on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 11, 1930 in Union County, NC, daughter of the late Dewey Douglas Moser and Lydia Parker Moser. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Senator Aaron W. Plyler and her loving son, Alan (Al) Plyler and brother, Bruce Moser. She grew up in the Prospect community and shortly after getting married, moved to Monroe. She was the oldest child in a family of four siblings.

Services to celebrate her life will be on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC. The family will visit with friends and relatives following the service. A private family burial will be held in Lakeland Memorial Park.

Ms. Plyler centered her life around her family and as the family grew, she embraced each one with love, grace and kindness. Her unique talents were evident in her impeccable sewing skills, finding a solution to most every dilemma, maintaining a beautiful garden filled with azaleas, continuing her reputation as an excellent cook for family and friends and making certain that the family’s house was always home to all who entered.

Of all who knew and loved Dot Plyler, none were more important than her family. She is survived by daughters, Barbara Plyler Faulk and Diane Plyler Hough; sons, Aaron Plyler Jr. (Donna) and Alton Eugene Plyler (Vickie). She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Barbara McCoy, Wes Faulk, John Faulk, Emily Parks, Aaron Plyler III, Adison Plyler, Alston Plyler, Adam Plyler, Alan Plyler Jr., Brad Plyler and Will Plyler. There are twelve great-grandchildren and another one due in February.

The family is grateful to her special caregivers, Tammie Moses, Daphney Blount, Star Roberts and Cathy Jones, who treated her with love and kindness. The family also expresses gratitude to Novant Health Home Care and Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Benton Heights Presbyterian Church, 2701 Concord Highway, Monroe, NC 28110.
