Dot (Rorie) Richardson

Mattie Doris Dot Richardson, 91, of Monroe, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016. She was born April 6, 1924, in Union County to the late John Buxton and Vivian Starnes Rorie. Mrs. Richardson was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, which she loved dearly, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was active with the United Methodist Women . An avid traveler, she enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband. She loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables, painting, and in later years, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Mrs. Richardson enjoyed her family and friends, always welcoming them into her home and hosting many that were visiting from out of town. Mrs. Richardson is survived by her daughters, Jimmie Lane McCorkle and husband, John, Sheri Rushing and husband, Dennis; siblings, Peggy Dean and husband, Garren, Marcy Mattox and husband, Bill, Joe Rorie and wife, Josie, Tony Rorie and wife, Susan, and David Rorie and wife, Nancy; brother in law, Bill Richardson and wife, Laura; sisters in law, Eula Rorie and Edith Rorie; grandchildren, Chandra Paskert and husband, Tim, John McCorkle, Jr., and wife, Marcy, Tiffany Morse and husband, Scott, and Scott Rushing and wife, Darcy; and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilson Richardson, Jr,; siblings, John B. Rorie, Marion Rorie, Bob Rorie, Ruth Richardson, and Frances Long; and great-granddaughter, Hannah Paskert. The family will visit with relatives and friends Thursday evening, March 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 1, at Prospect United Methodist Church, 6020 Prospect Church Road, Monroe, NC 28112. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.
