Douglas "Pete" Whitley

Douglas Gene “Pete” Whitley, 79, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025. He was born on October 12, 1945, in Union County, son to the late Howard Hosey Whitley and Mary Blake Trull Whitley. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Whitley (Jimmie), and Bill Whitley, and his sister, Ruby Whitley Funderburk (Tom).


A funeral service will be held on Thursday May 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Gordon Funeral service, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.


Pete served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict and was incredibly proud of his service.

He was also a loyal employee of Equipment and Supply for forty-seven years.


Pete is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sylvia Horne Whitley; son, Jamie Whitley; daughters, Lori Duncan (Patrick) and Tonya Dixon; three grandchildren, Trevor Whitley, William “Tate” Duncan, and Maryblake Duncan; and sister-in-law, Leola Whitley.
