Dr. Charles Brantley Aycock Jr., 84, of Matthews, NC passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. He was born in Wilson County, NC on September 17, 1939, son to the late Charles Brantley Aycock Sr., and Margaret Speight Aycock.
Brantley is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Sue Wilkerson Aycock, and their two sons Dr. Charles Brantley Aycock III, Dr. J. David Aycock, and daughter-in-law Courtnay Aycock.
He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1961, and subsequently attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. Dr. Aycock practiced optometry for over 50 years. He joined the First Eye Care practice in Monroe and later enjoyed practicing with his son at Aycock Eye Associates.
When not working, Brantley dedicated himself to the service of others. He was a lifelong member of the Monroe Kiwanis Club and served as its president from 1977-78. He was awarded the prestigious George F. Hixson Award in 1996. The Dr. Brantley Aycock Award was established in 2017, in recognition of his 40+ years of perfect attendance. Dr. Aycock also served as Deacon and Elder of the Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association-Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
The family would like to thank the staff at Windsor Run Retirement Community and Piedmont Overlook for the compassionate care they provided.
A private family graveside service was held.
