Dr. Gary Welch Jewell

Dr. Gary Welch Jewell, 71, of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017. He was born in Woodford County, KY on November 29, 1945 son of George William Jewell and Evelyn Hill Jewell. Dr. Jewell was a US Army Veteran and served from 1975 until 1977. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1967, and University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1971. He then went to Charlotte, NC where he served his OB/GYN residency from 1971-1975, and started practicing OB\GYN in Monroe, NC in 1977. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Monroe, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. In addition to Dr. Jewell's parents, he is survived my his loving wife of 50 years, Judy Jewell, a son Brent Jewell, and wife Jessica of Linville, NC, a daughter Suzanne Unruh, and husband Neal of Hampton, VA, a brother Kent Jewell, and wife Jean of Lancaster, SC, and ten grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112.
