Dr. James Robert “Bob” Gibson passed away on December 31, 2022. Bob was born on October 28, 1939 in Spindale, North Carolina. He was the son of James Robert Gibson Sr. and Charm Amanda Waldroup Gibson of Hayesville, NC.
He is survived by Elizabeth Gibson (his wife of 56 years whom he married on March 21, 1964) and his three children, Robert Reed Gibson (Melissa), Kathryn Gibson Faucett (Tom) and John Heyl Gibson (Colleen). He is also survived by his 5 beloved grandchildren Nicole Gibson, Matthew Gibson, Eric Gibson, Tommy Faucett and Brooks Faucett, as well as, many nieces and nephews.
Bob graduated from Hayesville High School in 1958 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1962 from The University of North Carolina. He was a member of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity and served as President. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1966.
From 1966 to 1968, he served as a Captain in the United States Army at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. He and Elizabeth moved to Monroe in 1968 where he practiced Dentistry for 45 years until retiring in 2013. He loved people and enjoyed his practice of dentistry. His loyal patients knew he would meet them after hours if they had an emergency. He was a member of the Monroe Rotary Club for many years and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #244 of Monroe. He was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joan Gibson Berryhill and his brother Jerry Gibson.
Bob loved his grandchildren and spending time with family. He enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandchildren, and going to the beach with them. He was happiest when all his grandchildren were visiting. He was a hunter and took time to enjoy that.
His family would like to thank the kind staff at Autumn Care in Marshville for providing excellent care over the last 18 months.
Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church 302 E Windsor St. Monroe, NC 28112 on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 1:00pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00pm to 12:45pm in the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
