Durwood Hatchell

Durwood Hatchell, 81, went home to be with his Lord, November 21, 2008. He was born in Duplin County, NC to the late John Bryant Hatchell and Ruth Edwards Hatchell. He graduated from Rose Hill High School, and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Funeral arrangements for Mr. Hatchell will be held Monday, November 24, 2008 at 1:00 PM in Golden Acres Baptist Church, 15809 West Lawyers Road, Matthews, NC 28104, officiated by Rev. Bruce Pope. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon – 12:45 prior to the service at the church. Surviving are his wife Kallie Helms Hatchell of 50 years, sons, Johnny Durwood Hatchell and wife Misty of Germanton, NC; John Bryant Hatchell, Sr. and wife, Tiffany, of Monroe; six grandchildren, Stephanie, Kayla and Houston Hatchell of Germanton, NC; Krista Hatchell, Kimberly Horne and John Bryant Hatchell, Jr., all of Monroe; three sisters, Ozell H. Wells, Mina H. Baker, Mary H. Finch and one brother, Norman Ellis Hatchell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Phillips, Naomi Thompson, Adele Edwards and Betty Starnes and two brothers Johnny Bryant Hatchell and Raeford Hatchell. Pallbearers are sons, Johnny Durwood Hatchell and John Bryant Hatchell, along with Jesse Helms, Reggie Pope, Troy Pope and David Lackey.
