Dushyant Ramanbhai Patel

Dushyant Ramanbhai Patel, 73, of Monroe, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, June 21, 2021, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with gastric cancer. Dushyant is survived by a devoted family: his wife of over 40 years, Dr. Latika Patel, his son and daughter-in-law, Kayur Patel and Catherine Bohannon, his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Amee Patel and Anand Varadarajan, and his three grandchildren, Pravin, Arun, and Leela. Dushyant is also survived by a large and loving extended family: his brothers, Devendra and Bharat, his sisters, Tilottama and Mira, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dushyant was blessed with so many close friends throughout his personal and professional life, all of whom will miss him dearly. A devoted husband, father, and businessman, Dushyant epitomizes the American dream. Originally from a small village in India, he came to the United States in the 1970s as a graduate student, sharing small apartments with friends and working odd jobs to make ends meet. He supported his wife, Dr. Latika Patel, as she completed her medical training, but before long, he established a professional niche for himself as a successful real estate investor. But Dushyant did not let his personal and professional successes remain his own. He helped several family members immigrate to the country and made sure they were financially secure; he put his children through college and graduate school; he offered his home to friends and family on hundreds of occasions, whether they were passing through for a day or staying for months. He took great joy in the simple pleasures in life--taking his large family out to new restaurants, shopping for clothes and electronics, and drinking tea with family and friends. His wife, Latika, and the children would like to thank the many family and friends that took time to visit, reminisce, and laugh with Dushyant in his final days. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brouse, Dr. Salo, and the dozens of medical professionals at Levine Cancer Institute and Atrium Health for their unending care, expertise, and support of Dushyant. Special thanks to Union County Hospice for their guidance and comfort during his final days. A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, June 23rd, and his funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 24th at 11 am-1:30 pm. Both events will be held at the Gordon Funeral Home at 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Union County Hospice.
