Edward Max Correll, age 87, passed away July 30, 2023, in Powell, Ohio. He was born in Monroe, North Carolina to John and Nell Correll. He married Jane Howie on June 22, 1958, in Monroe, North Carolina.
Max graduated from Walter Bickett High School in Monroe, NC. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving from 1954-1957 near the end of the Korean War. Following his military service Max attended North Carolina State University. Based on his academic excellence and leadership abilities he was invited to join ETA KAPPA NU, the Electrical Engineer Honor Society, and received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
General Electric quickly recruited Max to participate in a handpicked program created for new up-and-coming graduates – Manufacturing Management Program and the Engineering Manager’s Course. This three-year leadership program would start Max and Jane on a career journey with General Electric that spanned 35 years and included operations in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, South Carolina, Illinois, and Ohio. During his tenure, Max was celebrated for his ingenuity and honored to have created three patents that were utilized by General Electric.
Max loved all things history, playing golf (while finding a few balls along the way)
traveling all over the United States and beyond with the Wally Byam Airstream Club,
relaxing and walking on the beaches of the Carolinas and Florida, fishing and boating on Lake Murray, and backpacking in the Appalachian Mountains. All with family and making great friends along the way.
Max’s natural curiosity would always have him tinkering, inventing, building, and bringing back to life all things mechanical and electrical. He always loved a challenge.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jane Correll, sons Ken Correll, and Brian (Lynn) Correll and daughter Anne (Eric) Graber, his four grandchildren, Robbin Correll, Preston Correll, Dylan Graber, and Mason Graber. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nell Correll, and brother Johnny Correll.
A graveside service will be held in his hometown of Monroe, North Carolina at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery, 1901 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112, at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 12, 2023.
