Dateline: Monroe, NC Elbert Carl Griffin, 80, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013. He was born April 27, 1932 in Union County, son of the late N. Charlie and Mary Marion Griffin. Mr. Griffin was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Griffin, and sister, Kathryn Hall. He was a founding member of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, where he had served as fire chief. He graduated from Unionville High School and N.C. State University. He was a farmer, and later founded Griffin Farm Machine Co. in 1967. Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife, Carolyn Wheeling Griffin; sons, Charlie Griffin of Monroe and Alan Griffin of New York, NY; daughters, Liz Barabe of Winston-Salem and Patsy Arrowood of Monroe; grandchildren, Laura Griffin, Melissa Pappas, Hanna Vanderbijl, Abby Arrowood, Jon Arrowood and Emma Arrowood; and brother, C. Frank Griffin of Charlotte. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM in Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Monroe City Cemetery. The family will visit with friends and relatives Friday, March 8, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC.
