Eleanor Porter (Laney) Mccain

Eleanor Laney McCain September 20, 1925 - July 4, 2016 Eleanor went to be with her Lord on July 4, 2016 in Smithfield, NC. She was born September 20, 1925 in Mineral Springs, NC. She was the daughter of Frank Thomas and Ora Lee Porter Laney. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Maxwell W. McCain and their only child, Ronald M. McCain. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sandra McCain; her grandsons, Mark and Darren McCain (Melody) and three great-grandsons, Blake and Jacob McCain and Blake Price, and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Rolling Hills United Methodist Church, where she served as President of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Monroe Business and Professional Women’s Club, serving as President, as well as various other offices with 21 years perfect attendance. Eleanor worked in the Union County Tax Supervisor’s office since 1949 and was soon appointed Assistant Tax Supervisor, and retired after 35 years. Following her husband’s retirement, Mack and Eleanor spent time in their summer home at Holt’s Lake. After his death, she moved to their lake house in Four Oaks. She moved her membership to Centenary United Methodist Church in Smithfield, NC. A memorial service was held at Centenary UMC on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 10:00-10:45 AM. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 2:00 PM in Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe, NC. The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Senior Living, Smithfield, NC; her faithful sitters, especially Brandi, Tammy and Christy, and Hospice for their care of Eleanor.
