Beth

April 7, 1960 — November 10, 2021

Elizabeth Dowdle Bell April 7, 1960 - November 10, 2021 Elizabeth “Beth” Ruth Dowdle Bell, passed away on November 10, 2021 after battling cancer for most of this year. Beth was born in April of 1960 in Clinton, South Carolina to John H. Dowdle, Sr. and Florine Ginn Dowdle. Even during her formative years, she exhibited a competitive spirit, and very much enjoyed sports including pick-up games of football with other neighborhood kids. She later competed in basketball and softball while attending Clinton’s Thornwell High School. At Thornwell she also excelled as part of The Saints’ cheerleading squad. Following high school, she attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina where she formed life-long bonds with fellow Alpha Delta Pi members, and has always enjoyed reveling in their company through annual getaways. After graduating from college, Beth moved to Greenville, South Carolina for work. There she met and married Charlie Bell, her husband of more than 37 years. After 12 years in Greenville she and Charlie moved to Charlotte, NC in 1995 and together they raised two children: a son Taylor and a daughter Ashton. She adored her children and so as not to miss a moment of their young lives, she put her career on hold for several years to give them her full attention. In addition to attending to and supporting her children’s interests, she was also a devoted aunt to her many nieces and nephews. In April of this year, she and Charlie welcomed a fifth member into their family when their son Taylor married Taylor Conover. Beth spent a wonderfully productive 10-year career with Classica Homes. She has always considered her team there another part of her family. Long before her association with Classica, Beth enjoyed and exhibited a talent for interior design. This was a true gift that many of her family and friends appreciated and benefited from. The family often joked that Beth was more than willing to offer her design opinion, whether requested or not! Beth enjoyed Shag dancing and beach music, and she and Charlie took every chance they could to show off their talents on the dance floor. It wasn’t just the music of the beach that Beth enjoyed. She also enjoyed spending hours near, and on the beach; an experience made even more special for her when she could share it with family or friends. Her enthusiasm for life was on full display each January as she loved to bring in the New Year with great celebration. Her sense of humor and sincerity balanced her irrepressible drive for perfection in everything she undertook. Beth was predeceased by her mother Florine. She is survived by her father, John, Sr; her husband, Charlie and their two children Ashton, and Taylor (Taylor); by her brothers, John Dowdle, Jr. (Cynthia); Richard Dowdle (Sandy); and her sister Karen Vance (Todd) and many nieces and nephews. Beth’s family extends their gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Novant Presbyterian Hospital Harris Hospice Unit for their amazing care and support during her stay.
