Ellen Loraine Nilsen, 71, of Indian Trail, NC passed away on February 5, 2026. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 23, 1954, daughter to the late Kristian August Nilsen and Ruth Olsen Nilsen. She is also preceded in death by her brother Arvin Olav Nilsen.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2026 in the Chapel of Lee Park Church, 2491 Morgan Mill Rd, Monroe, NC 28110.

Ellen is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” Nilsen-Doble (Lee Ashton Doble), and Gloria Nilsen. Nephews Bill (Susanne) their daughter Claire, Doug (Cara) and their children Josephine and Max and her extended family, Astrid Swallows (Howard), Alfred Nilsen (Solfred), Arne Nilsen (Marit), Bjørg Pedersen (Victor), Kristine “Tini” Dæhlen (Peder), June Eikeseth (Lars Undhjem), Gunn Snarheim (Gunnar), Kate (Hans) Yndestad Tor Jan Olsen (Charlotte Kløve), John Tonnessen and son Erik, Pat Kleinschmidt (Robert), Mike Killeen (Lillian), Richard Swallows (Stacy) and daughters Ashley Silvestri (Max), Madison and Brooklyn, Erica Rendon (Carlos) their and daughters Jeanette and Charlie, and many other extended family members in Norway.

Ellen was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her. Her deep love for family was at the center of her world and she cherished memories.

A lifelong Disney lover, Ellen carried the Disney spirit and wonder in her all the time. She had a special affection for cows, their gentle nature and quirky charm - a small but telling reflection of her warm and joyful spirit. And if there was a coffee nearby, chances are it was hers; it was often a joke that she had more coffee in her than blood, a testament to her boundless energy and love for life.

Ellen had a true passion for helping others, she gave her heart freely, advocating for, supporting, and uplifting at-risk youth. Her hard work and dedication left a lasting impact on countless lives.

Ellen's love for Jesus guided her life and gave her peace. She had a strong steady faith that gave her comfort in knowing that she would be with her Savior in Heaven. Her faith was a source of strength to her and to those around her.

Ellen had an infectious laugh and the ability to add sparkle and innovation that brought people together, filling a room with warmth and making a gathering brighter just by being there. Her spirit was joyful, generous, and unforgettable.

Ellen will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her kindness, her laughter, and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in her family and in the many hearts she touched.
