Elsie (Craig) Johnston

Elsie Craig Johnston, 82, passed away August 23, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. She was born in Monroe, North Carolina May 13, 1932 to the late Hampton Ray and Loma McManus Craig. Elsie was a 1950 graduate of Benton Heights High School. As the wife of a career military man she traveled and lived in variety of locations in the United States and overseas. Many of those years as a military wife were spent in the Washington, D.C. area where she was employed by the Hechinger Company and where she retired with 23 years of service. In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by brothers Ray Craig, Tommy Craig and sister Peggy Shelton. Elsie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert (Bob) Johnston; daughters Vicki (Laszlo) Gaspar of Cheney, Kansas and Robin Moreau of Fredericksburg, Virginia; grandsons Damian (Margaret) Moreau of Leesburg, Virginia and Robert (Courtney) Moreau of Fredericksburg, Virginia; brothers Dean (Linda) Craig of Monroe, and Terry (Anne) Craig of Waxhaw, sisters Shirley Mabe of Matthews, and Janice (John) Griffin of Monroe; and three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in the chapel at Central United Methodist Church, 801 S. Hayne St. Monroe, NC 28112.
