Emily Nisbet Morrison

Emily N. Morrison MONROE - Emily Nisbet Morrison, 91, of Monroe, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, in Monroe. Mrs. Morrison was born in Pineville on Aug. 15, 1915. She attended Wingate College, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and taught at Walter Bickett Elementary School until her retirement. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Monroe and was active in Women of the Church. She and her husband resided for four years at Trinity Oaks Retirement Community in Salisbury before returning to their home in Monroe last year. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, William Harvey Morrison Jr.; three of her four children, Libby Bowers (Ron) of Salisbury, Marian Sinks (Tom) of Black Mountain, Rob Morrison (Janice) of Monroe; and daughter-in-law Judy Morrison of Monroe, who is the widow of her oldest son, William H. Bill Morrison III. She is also survived by grandchildren Mark Morrison, Bonnie Baldino, Scott Morrison, Jim Morrison, Katie Bogle, Susan Bolden, Emily Sinks, Maribeth Sinks, Andy Morrison and Kelly Morrison; and eight great-grandchildren. Surviving sisters include Douglas Davis, Louise Patrick, Lucille Guion and Carolyn McLean. She was preceded in death by brother Taylor Nisbet. Visitation: 1-2 pm Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Monroe. Service: 2:30 pm Saturday at the church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, 302 E. Windsor St., Monroe, NC 28112. Gordon Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge.
