Emma Broome

November 4, 1929 — January 19, 2020

Mrs. Emma Bigham Broome, 90, of Waxhaw, NC passed away January 19, 2020. She was born in Union County on November 4, 1929 to the late Joseph and Bessie Coan Bigham. Emma was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Thomas Wade Broome. She was a charter member of Oakland Baptist Church where she enjoyed greeting each and every person with a smile, handshake or hug. She stayed active by working until the age of 88 when she retired from Family Dollar, she found great joy tending to her flower garden and making jelly and preserves which she generously shared with others. Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Oakland Baptist Church, 600 East Sunset Drive, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends following the service. A private family burial will take place at Lakeland Memorial Park. Family and friends may come by Gordon Funeral Service 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112 to pay their respects from 10:00am until 5:00pm, Thursday, January 23, 2020 and Friday, January 24, 2020. She is survived by her two daughters; Wanda Goodwin (Sam) and Debra McKnight and former son-in-law, Rodney, three grandchildren; Jennifer Knight (Chris), Lory Parker and Marcus Newell (Christy), two step grandchildren; Stephen Goodwin (Corinne) and Sally Goodwin, five great grandchildren; Johnathan Parker, Samantha West, Tyler Newell, Hannah Knight and Colin Newell, two step great grandchildren; Kathryn Goodwin and Jeb Goodwin, and one great-great grandchild Lilly. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces all of whom she loved dearly and her fur baby, Precious. Emma was also predeceased by her nine brothers; Allen Bigham, Archie Bigham, Baxter Bigham, Bill Bigham, David Bigham, Oscar Bigham, Otho Bigham, Rayburn Bigham and Vann Bigham, two sisters; Evie Mae Manus and Myrtle Duckett. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Emma Broome Benevolence Fund at Oakland Baptist Church, 600 East Sunset Drive, Monroe, NC 28112.
