E. Harry Broome, Jr. September 30, 1942 – June 29, 2012 Harry Broome of Matthews, NC died Friday, June 29, 2012 with close family by his side. He was sixty-nine years old. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, July 2, 2012, 11:30 am – 12:45 pm at Central United Methodist Church, 801 South Hayne Street, Monroe, NC 28112 followed by a memorial service to be held at 1:00 pm. Harry was born in Monroe, NC to Ernest and Bertie Mae Broome. He was the youngest of three children and their only son. A Monroe High School graduate, Harry went on to complete his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Duke University. For over thirty years, Harry held a notable career in investment banking as one of the country's foremost municipal bond traders, retiring as the head of the bond trading floor of First Union Corporation. Though his love and devotion to his career was a passionate centerpiece to his life for many years, this was eclipsed by his devotion to his wife and family and Harry took early retirement in order to redirect his focus accordingly. Upon his slow decline in health and energy over the following years, his sincere devotion was returned in kind by those who loved him dearly. He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Lynda Hasenjaeger Broome of Matthews, NC; his son E. H. Sky Broome III and son-in-law Richard C. Helton, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; and his daughter Meredith Marie Broome of Denver, CO. He also leaves behind two grandsons, Chandler Caleb Broome and Grayson Skyler Broome, both of Charlotte, and one sister, Emily Younce of Monroe. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HealthQuest of Union County, 415 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112, or Central United Methodist Church of Monroe.
