Ernest Paul Capell

Ernest Paul Capell, 83, passed away April 14, 2021. He was born September 17, 1937, son of the late Samuel Leroy Capell and Lidie Harbin Capell. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Paul Capell; three brothers, Leroy Capell, Charles Capell, Joe Capell; two sisters, Catherine Capell and Geraldine Rhodes. Funeral services will be private. Ernest served thirty years with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, retiring in 1989 as a Commander. Some of his many interests include small engine repair, photography and hunting on his own property. One of his many talents was guitar picking and singing. He was an active supporter of Charlotte Rescue Mission, Rebound and Bethel Colony in Lenoir. Ernest is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, JoAnn Johnson Capell; one son, Darren Dwayne Capell and wife Laura of Waxhaw; one daughter, Bethanie Capell (Donnie Reid) of Denver, NC; one sister, Murle Smith and husband Joe of Brevard, NC; five grandchildren, Brandon Massey, Cody Capell, Cassidy West (Tyler West), Riley Capell and Sylvia “Baby” Capell. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
