Etta (Griffin) Phillips

Monroe, NC Mrs. Etta Griffin Phillips of Monroe, NC, died Sunday, June 22, 2008. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Pineville Rehabilitation Nursing Center. She was born in Monroe, NC on September 29, 1909 daughter of the late Festus Lorenzo Griffin and Cora Taylor Griffin Long. She was employed at Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, NC for forty five years. After her retirement, she and Mr. Phillips resided in Monroe where she especially enjoyed her church activities as well as her gardening. She was well known for her beautiful flowers. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Phillips and her four brothers, Roland, J. Lee, Theron, and Hoyte Griffin. Survivors include two daughters, Rachel Thomas Desern of Charlotte and Doris Thomas Koontz of Metamora, Michigan, sister, Lucille Griffin Deese Clontz of Monroe, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Price Cemetery in Monroe. Gordon Funeral Cremation Service is caring for the Phillips family.
