Evelyn Smith Cassels passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 93, in Charlotte, North Carolina, at a hospice supported care facility. Evelyn was born in Monroe, NC on November 14, 1932, and spent her entire life in the Charlotte and Monroe area. She worked in the North Carolina State Employees System and was a member of First Baptist Church in Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Lola Riggins; her brothers and sisters; Paul, Wilton, Genevieve, Margaret, Lyndon and Pete; her husbands: Buddy Smith and Robert Cassels; and her beloved daughter, Sharon Hardin.

Evelyn loved the Lord and her large Family. She is survived by her son-in-law: Ken Hardin; her niece: Lynne Riggins; and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn spent her later years at Merrywood Senor Living of Charlotte and enjoyed all her many friends, staff and caretakers at the facility.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to The First Baptist Church of Monroe, 109 Morrow Avenue, Monroe NC 28112.
