Dateline: Monroe, NC EVELYN MARIE MYERS GRIDER Dec. 7, 1952 - August 21, 2010 Marie was born on December 7, 1952 to the late James Myers and Grace Butler Myers of Clinton, NC. Marie passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 21, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Marie and Walt lived in Monroe, NC for the last nine years, but remained close to her family and friends in Clinton. She and Walt lived in many places throughout the country, but felt North Carolina was always home. A visitation is planned for Tuesday, August 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 26 at 3 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church in Clinton, NC. A visitation will be held at the church from 12:00 until 2:30 pm, prior to the funeral. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Marie was married to her devoted husband, Walter Lee Grider for 37 years. They had one daughter, Michelle Lynn, who is married to Duane Herman. Marie has one brother, James Howard Myers and wife, Michelle Smith Myers, of Cincinnati, Ohio and one sister, Phyllis Myers Kimrey and husband, Herbert Kimrey, of Carolina Beach, NC. She has many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in law. She loved them all dearly and they loved her. She had many wonderful friends in Monroe who have helped take care of her for the last two years. They were like family to her. Marie was a Christian. She loved the Lord and was ready for Him to take her home. She was a bright light in so many lives and will be missed forever.
