Obituary

Evelyn Helms Lomax Mrs. Evelyn Lomax, 90, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Mrs. Lomax was born in Union County, NC, December 4, 1923, daughter of the late Roy Sylvester Helms and Flora Presley Helms. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Benton's Cross Roads Baptist Church. Burial service will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe. The family will receive friends Friday, October 3, 2014 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Evelyn was an active member of the WMU and a lifelong member of Benton's Cross Roads Baptist Church, where she played the piano and organ and spent her life serving others. Mrs. Lomax was preceded in death by her three siblings: brother Parker L. Helms, sister Sadie H. Small and brother William B. “Dub” Helms. Evelyn was a faithful Christian and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Lomax is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Charles B. Lomax, two sons, Chuck Lomax and wife Pamela of Monroe, NC, and Philip Lomax and wife Karen of Matthews, and four grandchildren, Addie Lomax, Tristan Lomax and wife Cattie, Amanda Lomax, and Emily Gilmore and husband Matthew.
