Evelyn Benton Thomas

Monroe, NC Evelyn Benton Thomas, 80, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008. She was born in Union County, NC on August 6, 1928 daughter of the late Vernon and Jessie Furr Hartsell. Mrs. Thomas was the former owner of Midway Barbecue Restaurant. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 2:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. She is survived by her son, Jim Benton of Monroe, daughters, Barbara Benton Sell of Alpharetta, GA, Cathy Benton Graham of Knoxville, TN, sister, Ollie Hartsell of Kings Mountain, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 at Gordon Funeral Cremation Service. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 909 Circle Dr., Monroe, NC 28112.
