Evelyn Dare Starnes Twitty MONROE - Evelyn Dare Starnes Twitty, 104, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013, at Lake Park Nursing Center. She was born in Union County on April 3, 1908, daughter of the late Thomas Eli Drake and Ida Cunnup Starnes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyet Avery Twitty, Sr., after whom Lake Twitty was named. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Jane Twitty; brothers, Willis Starnes, Richard Starnes, Drake Starnes, Brinkman Starnes; and sisters, Flonnie Secrest and Sallie Mae Carter. Mrs. Twitty was a founding member of Mary Elizabeth Baptist Church. She served faithfully in several Baptist churches as piano player and Sunday School teacher. She received a certificate for 50 years with the Women's Missionary Union and played piano for 9 years ministering at Guardian Care Nursing Home. Funeral services will be Monday, January 21, 2013, at 2:00 PM in Oakland Baptist Church. The family will visit with friends and relatives beginning at 1:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Twitty is survived by her son, Boyet Avery Twitty, Jr. (Lynn) of Waxhaw; daughter, Edith Long (Bill, deceased) of Indian Trail; grandchildren, Donna Navey (Rodney), Lisa Taylor (Warren), Allison Batson (Mark), Rhonda Stewart (Glenn) and Todd Twitty (Debra); great-grandchildren, Josh, Mark, Jacob and Gloria Navey, Jessica and William Taylor, Bristol, Brody and Braylen Batson, Sarah, Abigail, Jonathan, David and Hannah Stewart; step-great-grandchildren, Devane and DJ Rushing; and great-great-grandchildren, Levi and Eli Navey.
