Faye Mangum Cox

Faye Deane Mangum Cox, 87 of Waxhaw, NC was born in her grandfather Mangum’s home in the Prospect Community of Union County, North Carolina, on September 5, 1936. Her parents were Ben Frank and Jeanette Starnes Mangum. She had one brother Dr. Gary Mangum, Sr. of Shelby, NC. She married Stanley Kenneth Cox on September 6, 1953.


A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Prospect Southern Methodist Church, 6020 Prospect Road, Monroe, NC 28112 with burial to follow in the church cemetery.


The family will receive friends from 5:00PM until 7:00PM on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.


She graduated from Prospect High School in May 1954 and joined her husband in Fairbanks, Alaska before it became a state of the USA. She worked as a Clerk of the U.S. Air Force Engineering Department at Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska.


After her husband was discharged from the U.S. Army, they returned to Union County where she helped her husband start a dairy farm, and took a job at Springs Mill in Lancaster, SC, as a clerk typist, moving up to a secretary. She came home in May 1960 when her only daughter Janet was born and stayed home to help her husband run the farm.


She was very active in Prospect Southern Methodist Church serving as a Jr. High Sunday School teacher, Administrative Board Committee, Trustees, and United Methodist Women. She served as United Methodist Women's District President, WNCC Membership Chair, and Spiritual Growth Coordinator.


Survived by her husband, Ken Cox of 70 years, daughter Janet, son in law Rodney Little, and the loves of her life, granddaughters Miranda (Ricky) Duany, Meredith Little (Will Choate, fiancé), great-grandson Luke Duany, and brother Dr. Gary Mangum Sr. (Mazie).


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Mrs. Cox’s honor to Prospect Southern Methodist Church, 6020 Prospect Road, Monroe, NC 28112, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
