Florence Joyce Winchester

Florence Joyce Winchester, 98, of Monroe, NC passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, 8 June 2022. Joyce was born in Great Falls, SC on 7 August 1923. She was the daughter of the late John Bunyan and Emma King Winchester and the sister of the late Vera Winchester Dunn. She is survived by her nephew, John A Dunn of Raleigh and grand nieces Kristi Dunn Williams of Raleigh and Megan Dunn Winslow of Suffolk, Virginia. Joyce had a long, successful 37-year career at Engelhard Corporation in New Jersey before retiring to Monroe.

Joyce was a caring, loving person with a great sense of humor, often laughing at herself, and she was also a strong-willed, independent person. She loved animals and her favorite dogs were Jackson and the ‘Edisto Beach dogs’ Boo and Celie. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church. Joyce always enjoyed finding a ‘deal’ at her favorite boutiques (thrift shops) in Monroe and having dinner with friends. The family would like to give special thanks to her wonderful caregivers. Joyce will be missed by all her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Union County 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd. Monroe, NC 28110.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
