Ruth Long Simpson left this land for a far better one on September 2nd, 2014. It was a long-awaited and highly-anticipated journey. She spent 93 years loving and being loved by her parents, Fred Randolph and Cleo Long; brothers, John Vann and Bill Long; her husband and the love of her life, Huey A. Simpson; children, Jim Simpson and Carolyn Goodwin; daughter-in-law, Marlene Simpson; grandchildren, Darin Simpson, Chase Simpson, Tracey Harrill (and husband Chris Harrill), Keri Humann, Jenny Joyner (and husband Will Joyner); and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kayla Harrill, and Lauren, Brent and Emma Humann. She is further survived by the daughter of a comrade-in-arms of her late husband, Maria Lucero, of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She served God through her membership in Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church for over seventy years, her country through work at the munitions plant in Kannapolis during World War II, and her family and community through continual love and service. She lived long and well. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 2014 at 2:00 PM in Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends and relatives beginning at 1:00 PM prior to the funeral. Memorials may be made to Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church, 109 E. Lawyers Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
